• My list of scariest movies of

    I am a lover of Horror movies. Obviously, since I'm posting on this web site. I can't get enough of slashers, vampires, gore, ghosts, spirits, zombies, monsters, psychos, goblins, ghouls, demons and the macabre. I grew up watching a lot of movies because my dad is a movie fanatic who would rent movies every Tuesday and copy them on VHS. He had hundreds of movies in his collection.  I had lots of favorite movies when I was kid; such as, The Goonies, Karate Kid, Back To The Future, Ghostbusters, and all the other classics. Somehow I always found myself drawn to the horror movies though. Even though I would find myself sitting up in my room at night shivering in terror after watching them I continued to torture myself by watching another one. Maybe it was sort of an adrenaline rush. I don't know. Whatever it was, I was hooked.  A lot of these movies on the list I saw as a kid, so they had a bit more of an effect on me. Others I didn't see 'til I was older, but still made me uncomfortable. Those are the horror movies I love the most. Whether its a creepy image, a gorey scene, a realistic storyline, a scene that makes me jump, or a movie that just leaves me feeling uncomfortable or icky; someway or another the movie made an impact on me and stuck in my head. I've seen a lot of movies and there are many that deserve to be on my list, but I had to narrow it down to 11. Yes, my list goes to 11. I'm not going to talk too much about the plots of the movies. Instead, I'm going to tell you my reactions and feelings I got from them and what made them memorable horror films. A lot of people will dispute my list. But, again, these are the movies that impacted me and help me to remember why I love Horror. Anyway, here is my list of scariest movies of all time.

    11. Candyman: This movie seems to be forgotten by a lot of people. The horror movies i saw as a kid tend to be the ones that scared me the most. Which is true for many people i'm sure. I first saw this movie when I was about 12 years old. I remember after watching it and not being able to look in the mirror the same way for a long time. I'm now 28 years old and watched it again for the first time in a long while.  I was still creeped out by it. That hook in the candyman's arm and the sound it makes ripping into people; and the bees in his mouth, is some scary stuff. I still would hesitate to say his name five times. Definitely worth checking out.

    10. The Grudge: To expand on what I wrote in the Candyman review, I'm older now and enjoy a good horror movie that can still give me a good scare. The Grudge definitely did that for me.  There was some seriously creepy images and sound fx in this movie.  This was a great ghost story taking place in Japan. A supernatural tale of a spirit that torments it's victims. I love to sit around at home in the dark, but I remember coming home after seeing it in the theater and putting on all the lights. I'll tell you one thing, it took a while to go back to living in the dark. I haven't seen the original Japanese version so I can't compare it to the Grudge. I know that some will argue that the original is better. This movie left me on the edge of my seat.

    9. The Descent: The Descent is probably one of the better horror movies of this generation. This one was filled with suspense and atmosphere. It makes me think twice about going to remote places, that's for sure. The creatures in this movie, to me, were pretty original and well done too. I like how they were blind and relied on there hearing to get around. I grew to like the characters and felt bad to see them get killed and there are some great scenes that made me jump. But what really made this one stand out for me was the overall feeling of claustrophobia I got. Seeing those girls trapped in those caves and small places with nowhere to go really is terrifying. This is a very dark movie. Great ending too.

    8. Evil Dead: This is a classic horror film that almost every horror fan has seen and has on their lists of great horror movies. It was followed by Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness which both helped solidify it as one of the best horror series out there. While the sequels started to add more comedy to them, the original was down right scary. I loved the camera work and the overall atmosphere of the movie. This is one of the movies I almost felt I had to have on the list. Every fan of horror should see this movie.

    7. Frailty: This is one of those movies that some people wouldn't classify as horror. It might be considered more of a Thriller or Suspense film. None the less, I think it is deserving of making my list. A friend of mine told me to check this movie out because he knew I liked horror. Well, I wasn't dissapointed. Now I'm the one who is recommending this movie to everyone. I loved the storyline. It kept me on edge and blew me away at the end. I'm a big fan of movies with twists and that keep you guessing. Frailty did that for me. Couple that with good acting and a believable plot and you got yourself a hell of a movie. Otis.

    6. Rosemary's Baby: Talk about a movie that really made me feel uncomfortable. Geez. This movie came out in the 60's, but I didn't actually see it until a few years ago. I kept seeing it on people's lists and saw it getting good reviews, so I had to check it out. It's not a movie that made me jump or has over the top gore, that's for sure. In fact it has none of that. It's the type of movie that got me to feel the characters pain and misery, and left me feeling awful when it was over. There aren't many other movies that made me feel that way.

    5. Saw: This was a great combination of gore, suspense, twists, and good scares. I loved this movie. I really connected with the characters and couldn't imagine being in their position. The scenes with the people being abducted were scary as hell and their struggle to escape was frightening. Then their is the ending. For me, it was probably one of the best endings to any movie, in any genre. Down right cool. See this movie if you haven't! The rest of the series is okay, but the original is just that, original.

    4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original): What a twisted movie this was. One of the earliest Slasher movies you could say, but more. It's not just a killer running around killing people. It's a messed up family that is truly disturbed and obsessed with the macabre. When I watch horror movies I like to put myself in the postion of the characters and try to imagine what it would be like to be in their situations. Texas Chainsaw Massacre scared the hell out of me. Lot's of memorable stuff in this one; the meat hook, the dinner scene, the chase scene, the sledge hammer, etc. Then there was Leatherface. The mask made out of skin is frickin' sick. Combine that with a bloody apron, a big hulking body, and a viscious chainsaw and that makes for one scarey dude. It's a down right dirty, sick, morbid, and twisted ride. And that's a good thing in the world of Horror in my eyes.

    3. Nightmare on Elm Street: I think this movie is one of the most original stories in Horror. Let's face it, dreams are mysterious. Nobody really knows for sure why we dream and what our dreams mean to us. Then, someone comes along and makes a movie that tells us that we can be killed by a psychopath while dreaming. Whoah! I don't know about you, but I didn't want to sleep again after seeing this movie. I was young when I saw it, so it did impact me more as a child. But, the idea of the movie can still give me some restless nights. Freddy is one of the icons of the horror genre. From his burnt face to his stripped sweater and grungy hat, he was the definition of creepy. The thing that made him famous though, was the razor glove. Everyone knows that glove and the sound it made on those pipes. It sent shivers down my spine. My cousin used to come over for sleep overs and we would sleep in the basement. He used to think Freddy lived in my furnace room. Ha. Overall, it has an awesome story, great special effects, and let's not forget; Freddy.

    2. The Exorcist: The main thing I can say about this movie is that it sticks in my head. It's based on true events. Which, for me, adds to the scare factor. Not to mention the fact that I was 12 and home alone when I first watched it. Watching Reagan's transition from an innocent girl to being possesed by pure evil is chilling. And seeing the effects on her mother and everyone around her leaves a lasting impression. This movie is filled with disturbing images; the head twisting, the green vomit, the giggle that reagan does after killing the priest, and the creepy as hell backward walk down the stairs. Eek! I still find myself looking twice at stairways. The soundtrack and original score are memorable and add to the overall feel of the movie as well. This movie is very vulgar, blasphemous, and evil. I can see why it had the impact it did when it was released.

    1. Halloween: No other movie gave me more nightmares than Halloween. This is one of the films I watched when I was probably too young. Maybe 7 or 8. I remember many a night laying in my bed not being able to sleep. I was terrified and would be literally shivering in terror. I'm sure my parents remember me asking to sleep in their bed many times. For some reason it was one of my most watched movies as a kid though. Strange. Now the movie does have a pretty simple plot; killer escapes mental hospital and comes back to home town to kill, but it pretty much set the bar for Slasher films. One of the things that helped do that was a memorable killer. Michael Myers is another icon in the Horror world. He scared the piss out of me. That plain white mask with that blackness in the eyes was horrifying. Simple yet scary. His slow walk and the way he stalked his victims was really effective. The fact that he really didn't have any back story added to the mystery of his character too. I did enjoy Rob Zombie's remake and following him as a kid though. It fit his style movie, but wasn't necessary in the original. One memorable scene that freaked me out was when he lifted the guy by his throat up against the wall and stabbed him through the chest. Then he leaves him hanging there staring at his victim and tilting his head side to side. Awesome. Let's not forget Donald Pleasance as Dr. Sam Loomis. He did a great job in that role. I love the way he describes Michael Myers and builds up how evil he is.  Then there is the theme song and the creepy music during the stalking scenes. That alone got me scared and hiding under my blanket.  Probably the most memorable themes for a horror film ever. I could go on and on about why I love this movie. All I know, is that Halloween hooked me on horror for life.

• VHS Flashback: Paragon Video

    I recently reviewed the new DVD release of Boarding House for my Killer B's on DVD mini-feature over on Cinematical.com (check it out here). I first saw this movie on VHS from Paragon Video, a long defunct label whose magnificently lurid box covers graced video stores everywhere during the hey day of VHS. Paragon was one of those companies responsible for making obscure trash cinema available to the common man, and God bless 'em for it.

    I found this way cool gallery of Paragon tape box covers over at the Critical Condition website, and phrases like "adjust tracking for best picture" and of course "be kind rewind" have been running through my head ever since. Some of these I've seen, some I haven't, but the art really grabs the imagination. Iconic 42nd Street gore flick Dr. Butcher, M.D. is there, as is something called Death Promise whose cover is obviously done by comics legend Neil Adams, and you can see art for minor classics like Blood on Satan's Claw, Tombs of the Blind Dead, Kiss Me Kill Me and Silent Night Bloody Night. This stuff is awesome.

• Miko Macabre's Cryptique

    Introducing Miko Macabre. I stumbled across Miko's show Cryptique while searching for horror reviews on Youtube and frankly I'm surprised these videos have so few hits. Cryptique presents the capsule versions of trashy horror flicks with Miko adding her two cents throughout. There are two episodes currently posted covering Night of the Demons and Burial Ground: Nights of Terror, with each installment broken into three parts. As Miko points out in her first episode, the use of these copyrighted films really pushes the limits of "fair use" but the Cryptique versions of these flicks are a lot more entertaining than the originals ever were.

    The resemblance to Elvira, Mistress of the Dark is obvious, with the combination of innuendo, cleavage and cornball humor, but Miko has the distinct advantage of actually being funny. Elvira had camp appeal, but she never actually made me laugh. Cryptique has recently launched a new site, though there's nothing there yet. There is a pretty cool Youtube video promoting the upcoming season, but for a real taste of what the show has to offer, check out episode 2 in parts 1, 2, and 3. I think this project has a lot of potential and I'm anxious to see where it goes.

Right now he's not wearing much but stupid shit I made up, I have to make him an outfit later. And work on making him not a girl. My first steps, huff. Cat reminds me of my teago, Morpheus. Except Morpheus is like...more tired. And more bitter. Much more bitter, rofl. GOD I KNOW, I CAN'T DRAW MEN HIS PECS LOOK STUPID. Teagos are so cute, they're owned by a pal of mine and she makes them. And you adopt one and they are just...so cute. Half tiger, half goat. ;3; <333 I'm making a Teago Circus with all the teagos I adopt. So far I got 2, those being Cupcake and Morpheus. Cupcake is his little sister and is the Ring Leader while Morpheus does special effects like fireworks and stuffs. <3 Anyways. I switched back to Windows from Linux, so I've been deprived of my Alias. ;3; It's been devistating. Oh well, now everything is back on track and stuff, I'm fine. My ass hurts in this stupid new metal chair. I am half tempted not to buy a new chair and like, decorate this one with cushions. See, I've had my pink little saucer bowl chair forever, and I finally broke it today. ;^; I go flying onto it and it BREAKS the aluminum. WHich sucks. It made me feel like a fatty, lmfao. Well I did gain 2lbs, but...STUPID BIRTHDAY CAKE. IT HAD TO BE DELICIOUS. LIKE THOSE SUGAR COOKIES. But my sweet tooth craving has pretty much gone away after a weekend of sweets and junk food. Adventuring Alligator might go for service this weekend, she's my pink scooter. *3* She's quite the beaut, and can only go up to 45. And I always wear my pink helmet and my giant sunglasses, hahaha. I'm soooooooo cool. Not rly. Anywho. So yeah. I got American History tommorow, I am so totally happy about sitting next to drug kid with his fukken rancid breath. I'm tempted to sit somewhere else but...my seat next to the window is MINE. >:IIII 'Sides, it's not like it's scary enough having a bunch of college losers talking about bible studies around me. ;_; GOD. REMINDS ME WHEN I WAS CALLED A SATANIST BACK IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. GAWSH DANGSIT I MUST BE PRAISIN' TO SATAN FER LIKIN' GOOD MEWSIC. I hated Middle School, the only time I ever thought about killing myself or like cutting myself.     You Know what I am tired off this shit! I start writing a story on here and what some asshole decides to bring me down cause my story isnt up to his standereds sooo you know what I have just about had enough of this shit! There are 3 parts to my story "Valons chosen one" , "Ella's awakening" , and "Valons secret place" yah I wasnt to happy with the 3rd page when i was done but I do not write rough drafts I write what I am thinking at the moment and if thats not good enough for anyone stop reading my blogs! At this point I dont think im going to put anymore of my writing on fearnet!     Hey, did anyone out there watch a movie and get dissapointed, but the soundtrack rocked. I can think of many, but the one that comes to mind is "Queen of The Damned" The movie wasn't all that bad, but the soundtrack rocked, Korn, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, etc. I read the book, but the movie wasn't all that good. If this has happened to anyone before please reply to this post. I do feel guilty because it starred Alliyah. RIP Alliyah you will always be remembered.
